Can I buy glasses online?
We do not sell glasses online. Prescription eyewear is more than a fashion statement. Ensuring that your eyewear is properly fitted, and made to the specifications of your prescription, requires personal attention and a licensed optician.
Why do I need an eye exam, can’t I just get a ‘free eye test’?
Our eye exams are performed by a Doctor of Optometry, and include not only a vision test but also a comprehensive check of your ocular health.
Even people who do not need glasses should have their eyes checked yearly, as many conditions do not affect vision immediately. Your eye health,like, your physical health, is best left in the care of a professional.

I can see fine, why do I need an eye exam?
An eye exam covers more than reading the eye chart. Looking for emergent issues, from glaucoma to cataracts, and monitoring conditions such as
diabetes are all part of your yearly eye exam. For patients who spend time on computers, are exposed to chemicals, heat, or conditions that may
affect their eyes, an annual exam ensures that you are still seeing clearly for years to come. The Ontario College of Optometrists recommends that
you ‘make a regular visit to your optometrist part of your annual health assessment’.
When should my child have their first exam?
The Ontario College of Optometry recommends the first exam happen around six months of age and again at age three. However, if you have any concerns, feel free to contact us to schedule a visit sooner. Many parents do not realize that their child needs glasses until they start school and have trouble seeing the board in class.

What are Transitions ™ lenses?
Transitions ™ lenses are a type of brand-name plastic eyeglass lenses which tint to either brown or gray when exposed to UV light. When worn indoors the lenses are clear and transparent. The lenses will not fully tint when in a vehicle, as windshields block UV light. Many drivers prefer to wear sunglasses for that reason.
What are Progressive lenses?
A progressive lens can also be called a ‘no line bi-focal’. Progressive lenses allow you to have one pair of glasses that provide up close, mid-range
and distance vision. The lens has a ‘progressive’ field of view, unlike the traditional bi- (or tri-) focal lenses, which have each visual segment divided
by a ‘line’ which is visible in the lens itself.

I work on the computer all day, but I can’t see the monitor and the paper and still look across the room, help!
You may benefit from computer lenses. Like a Progressive lens, these allow for different focal areas in one lens. The computer lens has focal areas for near and mid-range distance only, with no ‘far’ distance area. These lenses are not for use when driving, but are excellent for people who spend
a lot of their day on computers and doing other ‘up close’ tasks.
I have astigmatism, can I wear contact lenses?
Our Eye Doctor can assess your vision and determine if you are a candidate to wear a lens that corrects for astigmatism. We also fit bi-focal and RGP lenses for our patients.

I have a prescription from my eye doctor, can you make me glasses?
Yes. We honour prescriptions from registered Optometrists and Ophthalmologists. You do not have to have an eye exam at the Eyeglass Shoppe to purchase eyewear from us.
I have benefit coverage through my company, how can I use it to purchase eyewear?
While some benefit companies allow us to bill them directly, many require you to purchase your eyewear and submit the invoice to them. Please
contact your benefit administrator to determine your entitlements.
